Two different groups of macaques have been spotted in Japan mounting sika deer. The behavior could be part of a shared “culture” between the animals.

One such place is Nara, a city in central Japan. Within minutes of arriving, I spotted two sika deer casually lounging in the city centre, unfazed by the hundreds of commuters rushing past.
