When firefighters entered the property at around 1.30pm, they found the curtains on fire in the bedroom which had been caused by sunlight reflecting off a decorative glass globe on the window sill.

Perzy, who always had a knack for experimenting in his workshop, found inspiration for his assignment in a tool used by local shoemakers: a glass globe filled with water to act as a magnifying glass.
